On average, students from countries that are part of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) spent 27 hours per week learning in regular school lessons. Further, many students at the age of 15 have found themselves spending on average 17 hours per week studying after school. This amounts to 44 hours a week of consistent learning. To help lifelong learners manage their study plan, GPetrium has built a Weekly Study Schedule.

How to use

It is as simple as downloading the weekly study schedule, opening the file and begin adding the plan for the week. Ensuring a healthy study balance is essential, so consider the following key areas when creating a weekly study schedule: study subjects, study materials, transportation time, study break, food break, nap/sleep, time off and other commitments.

How to prepare for a successful study week

  • Determine the course material, teaching and learning methods and the expected amount of time needed to become proficient based on the teacher’s feedback and previous experience with similar materials. The National Survey of Student Engagement at the Indiana University (Figure 6) in the US found students mostly use three key learning strategies:
    • Identify key information from the reading assignment
    • Review notes after class
    • Summarize learning material.
  • Build a study routine to help it become second nature. This includes creating consistency in the process of preparing, beginning, progressing and finalizing the study period.
  • Do not leave studying for the last minute since multiple factors can decrease retention and overall success.
  • Study in environments that facilitate concentration. This may include a study room, library, book store, park, or a community center. At times, this is not an option, which means that limiting external distractions is the best course of action.
  • Time availability can be scarce sometimes, which means that any off-period available may be the only opportunity to study. Make sure to use these times well and be prepared to jump into the material.
  • Become aware of and remove any potential distractions to the study. This may include background noise, cellphones, social media, and other stimuli.
  • Plan sporadic breaks to allow the body to process the material. Breaks may include, but it is not limited to sustenance, meditation, exercise and naps.

Print Weekly Study Schedule

To some, having a physical copy of their weekly study schedule is the best way to ensure success. To do that, simply press CTRL+P or go to File -> Print.
