The RASCI matrix is a visual business tool used to define the connection between members and their roles to deliverables in a project or business activity. Its name serves as an acronym for Responsible, Accountable, Support, Consulted and Informed.
To begin using the RASCI matrix, open the file and remove the pre-populated sample. Determine the activities that the RASCI will cover and add them to the column A table. Choose the personnel or teams available for the job and fill their names into row 4 (dark blue). Fill out their department of positions in the company in row 5, right underneath their respective names. Once the basic structure of the RASCI is completed, decide the role of each individual for the activities/milestone.
Responsible (orange) – Person or team expected to lead the charge in delivering the activity or milestone.
Accountable (dark blue) – Key decision-maker in charge of approving resources, strategy and ultimately accountable for the activity or milestone.
Support (green) – Persons assigned to assist the responsible in delivering said activity or milestone.
Consulted (yellow) – Experienced personnel brought in to provide advice in an area of expertise.
Informed (light blue) – Individuals kept in the known regarding activity completion, key changes or other relevant information.
There is currently space for 20 activities or milestones and 7 team members. It is possible to create additional space, however, changes to the format may be needed before printing or sharing with others.
Whether you would like to print or have a pdf version of your RASCI matrix, all that is needed is to press CTRL+P or go to File->Print. It may be necessary to change the excel format if the number of activities or team members goes beyond their respective thresholds (read Space Limitation).
