Advances in technology and the growth of the internet has led to tremendous growth in user credential in all parts of life. Whether it is to listen to music, read e-mails, use social media, watch videos or pay the bills, a login and password are required everywhere. At the same time, maintenance of multiple accounts can be challenging. To facilitate that, a simple to use password log template has been created.

How to use

This solution is straight forward, all a user has to do is download the file and begin adding all the relevant data into their password log template. To understand what each header is meant to cover, refer to the information below:

Header

password log header followed by explanation
  • Website – Page used to login to the relevant account.
  • Category – Helps to classify the account login & password for easier search. It currently has a drop-down option with the following items: Email, Social network, Career, Government, School, Finance, Business, Volunteer. New categories can be added as needed.
  • User ID – A unique login identifier used to enter the website. It can sometimes be the person’s e-mail address.
  • Password – Secret word or phrase containing letters, numbers and symbols. It is possible to change the password font color to white & grey, helping to ensure others can’t see the password with the naked eye.

  • Notes – Additional information about the account. To some, it may be used for password hints, Q&A for a password reset, explanation of the value of having the account, among other cases.

Password Security

This password manager template may not be for everyone. If you need an online password manager with higher levels of encryption, the most common password managers are KeePass, 1Password and LastPass. But that can change at any time, so ask a search engine for ‘password manager free open source’. Solutions with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128-256 bits or higher are preferable.

Always keep your files, included printed copies in a safe and secure location to limit the risk of exposure. For those interested in better understanding cybersecurity, please refer to ‘Tips for Increased Cyber Security

Print

For those interested in printing a copy of the password log template, all that is needed is to press CTRL+P or go to File -> Print.
